It has been (exactly) three months since my first blog post. And since tomorrow is Earth Day (even though everyday should be earth day but since it's a chance for me to do something different so I'm acknowledging it), I'm using this post to reflect what I thought about my progress so far~

What was fun:

I really loved the process of turning something into something else. Though it might be frustrating when certain ideas don't work out or dull when steps had to be repeated over and over again, it was gratifying to know that whatever I made, I came up with it myself. Eventually it turned from an environmental origin to making things just because I like the making things process.

What was unexpected:

my first attempt at the wastepaper basket

Usually, I set up to make things with no idea what the end result will look like. Sometimes I get ideas like "hey you know what would sound poetic? If we turn wastepaper into a wastepaper basket!" But my final product would end up becoming very different from what I imagined (my wastepaper basket ended looking more like a box than a basket). Sometimes, an idea that I had in my head would simply not work out, then I would pause my audiobook and stare at it in frustration for a few minutes. Other times my absurd ideas work out surprisingly well, and I could actually use my final product. But more often I proudly use it for a few weeks, then forget about them. This process made me realize that in the process of untrashitfying trash, I eventually made more trash.

So was this project ultimately pointless then?

No! Making things was definitely fun! And I learned a lot about recycling or environmental protection in general when I research for my blog, as well as the goings on inside my own home (we had tons of more magazines than I thought). Perhaps the purpose of making things to protect the environment got lost somewhere in the middle (^.^')

What's next?

I will definitely continue to post (I technically have to for my English class), but I might start making separate making things posts and environmental posts. I do still post update videos on my youtube channel, and at least according to my mom those are more fun to watch than reading this long blog. If you have anything you want me to make or repurpose, let me know in the comments! I'm always open to new suggestions/comments~~
